    Director: Integrated Environmental Management Instruments Development and Training of Department Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment (DFFE)

    Simon Moganetsi is Director: Integrated Environmental Management Instruments Development and Training in the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE). He has been in the field for over 20 years. He has developed a number of regulatory instruments such as EIA Regulations, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Environmental Management Frameworks, generic Environmental Management Programmes, related Norms and Standards for exclusion to obtain environmental authorisation and procedural guidelines. He also championed the development and implementation of the IEM systems such the National Environmental Authorisation System used to capture, track and report on the EIA applications that is currently used by all competent authorities.

    Appeals and Strategic Environmental Instruments: Instruments Development at Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment (DFFE)

    Rhulani is responsible for the development of instruments in the Chief Directorate Strategic Environmental Instruments. Rhulani holds an M.Sc. in Resource Conservation Biology from Wits and has extensive experience working as an ecologist in Gauteng (working for GDARD in the southern grasslands for 4 years) and CapeNature (in the Cape Winelands and Cape Metro areas, for 3 years). In addition, Rhulani worked as an environmental consultant for ERM Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd for 18 months and for NRM for 7 years prior to joining DFFE in 2014.

    Rivalani holds a Diploma in Environmental Management from Tshwane University of Technology and an BSC in Environmental Management from UNISA. She has 17 years of experience on EIAs, having worked at the Department of Environment and Nature Conservation between 2006 and 2008, GDARD between 2008 and 2011. Rivalani currently works at the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment as a Control Environmental Officer, responsible for Environmental Impact Assessment training.

    Humbulani Muhanganei has a National Diploma in Environmental Management from Tshwane University of Technology.

    Humbulani has worked as an Environmental Officer & Principal Environmental Officer reviewing EIA applications with the Department of Environment and Nature Conservation, in the Northern Cape for almost 3 years between 2006 and 2009.

    She current works at DFFE as an Environmental Officer Control, and has 17 years’ experience working with the National Environmental Management Act and related regulations and instruments. Mainly responsible for training the stakeholders on how to undertake the EIA using the regulations and updating them on the amendments relating to legislation, regulations and instruments.

    Kishaylin Chetty is the Senior Manager for Sustainable Financing at the Endangered Wildlife Trust and is a highly knowledgeable Environmental Scientist with 14 years’ experience in the sustainability and environmental management fields. He is a Subject Matter Expert in environmental and social governance matters, particularly involving energy infrastructure construction and operation, biodiversity management, nature-based solutions, sustainable financing, and climate change related issues. He is a Wits University graduate, and he is currently studying towards his PhD looking at the impacts of wind farms and associated infrastructure on avifauna, through North West University.

    Dr Gabi Teren is the Programme Manager of the National Biodiversity and Business Network of the Endangered Wildlife Trust. The programme partners with corporates at a global level to understand their dependencies, impacts and opportunities related to biodiversity. She is on the Executive Committee of the UN Global Partnerships for Business and Biodiversity and heavily involved in finding practical solutions for the private and public sectors to work together to meet the Global Biodiversity Framework Targets, which she will be touching on today.
