She leads the SRK Climate Change but focuses her technical work on using her skills in integrated environmental management to focus on Climate Change Risk Assessment.     Vanessa Maclou is employed by the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and is based in the Head Office where she is heading up the Policy and Processes unit and is responsible for environmental governance, policy and law reform and strategic EIA’s.

    In her former position as the District manager for the Durban district office she has reviewed and authorised environmental decisions for over 10 years. She is a registered EAP and a designated EMI with over 20 years’ experience as a compliance officer.

    She holds a LLM degree in Environmental law and a BSc degree (Chemistry, Microbiology) with Honours certification in Water Quality Management: Technology from the University of Pretoria, Faculty of Chemical Engineering. She holds a certificate in environmental Technology from Ngee-Anne Polytechnic University in Singapore.

    Her accreditation in Integrated Coastal management was acquired from UCT campus, and advanced Waste Management credentials obtained from the former Natal Technikon and has a host of EIA related training certifications.

    She has over 30 years’ experience in both water science and environmental laws and is now in the space of policy and law reform seeking to bridge the divide between the legislation and implementation.
