Philipp Burmeister is a Partner at SRK’s Durban office. She has over 20 year experience in integrated environmental management and sustainability assessment including the use of a range of integrated environmental management tools. More recently she has specialised in Air Quality compliance and Climate Change. She leads the SRK Climate Change but focuses her technical work on using her skills in integrated environmental management to focus on Climate Change Risk Assessment. This involves determining the potential physical and transitional risks associated with climate changes. Philippa is a member of both NACA and IAIAsa and holds both a PrSciNat and RegEAP (EAPASA).

Vanessa Maclou is employed by the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and is based in the Head Office where she is heading up the Policy and Processes unit and is responsible for environmental governance, policy and law reform and strategic EIA’s.

In her former position as the District manager for the Durban district office she has reviewed and authorised environmental decisions for over 10 years. She is a registered EAP and a designated EMI with over 20 years’ experience as a compliance officer.

She holds a LLM degree in Environmental law and a BSc degree (Chemistry, Microbiology) with Honours certification in Water Quality Management: Technology from the University of Pretoria, Faculty of Chemical Engineering. She holds a certificate in environmental Technology from Ngee-Anne Polytechnic University in Singapore.

Her accreditation in Integrated Coastal management was acquired from UCT campus, and advanced Waste Management credentials obtained from the former Natal Technikon and has a host of EIA related training certifications.

She has over 30 years’ experience in both water science and environmental laws and is now in the space of policy and law reform seeking to bridge the divide between the legislation and implementation.

Siya Mkhize is an attorney and partner at Shepstone & Wylie Attorneys specializing in environmental law, local government and administrative law, litigation, town planning and development, clean energy, and health and safety law providing legal advice to private and public sector clients in South Africa including clients in Africa, Europe and North America. Siya has litigated up to the Constitutional Court on environmental matters. He is also a lead auditor for Environmental, Health and Safety Legal Compliance audits conducted for various national and international companies across South Africa, and in foreign jurisdictions such as Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and Lesotho. He provides training on a variety of legal topics and has been invited by national and international Institutions as a guest speaker and lecturer.

Siya is the Vice President of the National Association for Clean Air (NACA), and is a member of the South African Environmental Law Association (ELA), International Association for Impact Assessments South Africa (IAIAsa) and the South African Institute

Melusi Molefe is qualified as an Environmental Engineer and has experience in water, air quality and waste management. Currently leading the implementation of the Air Quality Management Plan for eThekwini municipality. His primary duties are
compiling and updating Emission Inventories, Modelling of atmospheric emissions and implementing air quality and climate mitigation projects for the city of eThekwini. I have been C40 Air Quality Network Champion from 2018. Melusi I has a particular interest in
health risk assessment and conducting benefits analyses to motivate for climate and air quality mitigation projects.

Highly motivated Senior Manager: Pollution Control with extensive pollution control (waste, water, land, energy, air quality management), food safety and leadership experience. A seasoned strategic leader with a proven track record of leading highly qualified technical teams in the development and execution of systems strategies and policies aimed at improvement of pollution management.

Having served extensively within the corporate space in numerous organisations including private sector and various spheres of government and in numerous ranks from Acting Deputy Head: Pollution Control and Risk Management; Senior Manager: Pollution Control; Assistant Director: Air Quality Authorization (Mining, Energy and Waste); Assistant Director: Ambient Air Quality Monitoring; Air Quality Specialist: Licensing, Monitoring, Air dispersion model; and Principal Air Quality Consultant; with effectively over 13 years of working experience of which 10 years is a management / executive management level in the public sector, one has progressively accumulated substantial experience in air quality and climate change, management of diverse environmental compliance and enforcement , waste management, food safety and a track record of success at senior level in the achievement of operations and deliver of programmes , along with an extensive knowledge of the applicable government priorities, and an in-depth understanding of the eThekwini economy and development trends, embodied by a thorough understanding of the local, provincial and national government environment.
