Implementation of the KZN Provincial Watercourse Infrastructure Standard

On the 13th September 2024 the KZN Provincial Watercourse Infrastructure Standard was adopted and Gazetted for implementation by the Minister. This new Standard and Generic EMPr significantly changes the environmental procedures and related to smaller watercourse infrastructure projects for causeways, bridges, roads, pedestrian bridges and water/sewer pipelines in KZN. The Standard comes into legal effect on the 13th November 2024, and the listed activities in the projects identified in the Standard will now undergo a registration process and adhere to the Standard and Generic EMPr, rather than undergo a basic assessment process.

The intent of the workshop session is to present the Standard and procedures identified therein, and to answer questions related to the processes, information requirements and interpretation so as to facilitate easier implementation of the Standard.
