Combining environmental legislation and technology to reduce the risk to EAPs in water use and waste management applications
An appreciation of the finite renewable water resources use over past decades leads to an appreciation of the need for change to today's philosophy and principles which affect the development of engineering technology and its implementation in water use and waste management. The presentation aims to reduce the risk to which EAPs are exposed by providing insight into guidelines and standards applied in the engineering review of water use and waste management license applications. The consequences of ignoring guidelines on readily available technology are illustrated by some examples.
The technical presentation is preceded by a presentation on the legal framework setting out government's duty to protect South Africa's water resources and the license application process as a tool to achieve this.
